Good news, second payment of BR1M shall be made starting 28th May. This phase involves a payment of RM 300.00 while the remaining RM 350.00 shall be paid on 28th of September 2015. According to the numbers from Ministry of Finance, around 4.65 million recipients are eligible for the second phase of BR1M payment. The second payment shall be credited directly into recipient’s bank account. If the recipient does not have a bank account, an approval letter will be sent to recipients address where the aid can be claim at either Bank Simpanan Nasional, CIMB or Public Bank.
There are also around 140,000 successful appeal applications that will be paid starting tomorrow. Family Bereavement Scheme (SKK) was also introduce with BR1M 2015 which will automatically insure the recipients against any unfortunate incidents. Currently, there are 16,000 SKK insurance claims that was approved by the ministry. The beneficiary of the SKK scheme can claims a total of RM 1,000 from Bank Simpanan Nasional by submitting the application form and the Identity Card of the deceased.
BR1M program has been under fire lately especially by the former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. The current Prime Minster Dato Seri Najib Razak has claimed that BR1M is the idea of Bank Negara as an economic measure to protect the lower income group. The Prime Minister has also criticized Malaysians who are silent when receiving BR1M however complaint when prices rose “a little” when the GST was implemented. The new GST tax system is touted to be much fairer and more efficient to help broadens the country’s revenue. Prime Minister Dato Seri Najib Razak has also brushed off suggestions where BR1M Recipients are exempted from paying GST.
