PTPTN or (Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional) today announced that only BR1M recipients children will only be able to receive full PTPTN study loan. According to PTPTN chairman Datuk Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, BR1M will be taken as a criteria when PTPTN applications are being considered starting this month. This is because PTPTN is an effective way to measure parent’s income as compared to previous PTPTN evaluation method.
PTPTN is now effectively lending only 75% to household income that is less than RM 8,000 , while 50% to household that has more than RM 8,000 income and above. BR1M aid receiver’s children will be able to fully enjoy PTPTN loan. According to PTPTN chairman this will enable PTPTN education loan to be more effective while reaching poorer groups. The new criteria for PTPTN loan is seen to reduce a total of 5 percent loan for public institution while 15 percent loan for private institution lending.
PTPTN chairman Datuk Shamsul Anuar Nasarah has also urged lower income group to register for BR1M at the nearest LDHN office to ease them when subscribing for PTPTN loan.
This move has been seen as a measure of managing dwindling funds by the organization. PTPTN is having issue collecting loans back from student after their studies. Samsul also mentioned that PTPTN can either reduce the number loans to student or reduce the amount of loan to student. PTPTN has made the second choice to ensure that education loan can reach all levels of society.
